Pocket WiFi 4G R216 - Crashing and crap

$
0
0

I have had the Pocket WiFi 4G R216 for about a week.

I previously had a Telstra 4G hotspot with iinet (optus sim card) which has a 5 device limit. No problems other than a lack of WIFI users. Using the vodafone sim card in the Telstra hotspot with updated APN it works as before.

Using the Pocket WiFi 4G R216 i have the following problems.

1. the service cant get 4G at all with external antennas on the hotspot, although the coverage map says 4G is available. Despite this i would be happy with the 3.5G if it would work properly. Without external antennas there is NO reception indoors at all.

2. device constantly flicks between 3G & 3.5G, there is no setting to fix onto 3.5G, only 3G or 4G only, but set to 3G only it flicks between 3G / 3.5G.

3. the web interface constantly crashes, it also crashes on the android app.

4. WIFI drops out occasionally all together.

I have tried to update the Firmware to 5.1 but need an unlock code to run the update, that said, there is no readme to say what the firmware will fix. I contaced tech support but my phone dropped out due to awesome network coverage, they said they would arrange an unlock code but i havent heard back from them.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the problems above? points 2 & 3 are of the most concern at this point.

Thanks

hi Vodafone

I have been posting on your fb page for about 3 months, regards repeated dropouts with my black wi-fi thing .

All i ever get are platitudes about we're upgrading the tower

Did you upgrade with rejects from Ethiopas network? It hasn't made any difference,& i am unable to go an hour without the net dropping out,& it's even worse when i'm using skype, which drops out every 10 to 15 minutes.

You are much cheaper than Telstra, that's why i left them, but fair dinkum,i live in Sydney suburbs, you should be able to provide functioning internet,.

I don't have this issue with my mobile, also with you,so i'm suspecting its your garbage wifi unit,or your Ethiopian equipment in the tower.

Ive had enough of it,& want a solution, please, not just nonsense.

USB dongle with port for external Yagi antenna

$

Hi

I live on a farm and don't have any internet options except satellite or Mobile Broadband. I'm not will to go down the Sat line yet until I've exhausted all Mobile broadband options first. Our reception inside the house is very poor but works OK if I feed Cooax to the modem then broadcast the WIFI inside. We have 4G but it's so poor we only get any speed from 3G.

I'm not willing to commit to a plan and infrastructure with a new carrier until I can prove it works better than my existing set up.

I'm using a Telstra WIFI modem that has a port for the Antenna which works well, but it's got 2 big failings.

1: It's got a limited WIFI option as it's got no RJ45 plug to be able to us another WIFI link from it to boost the signal and

2: Their biggest data plan is 15 gig per month which is just not enough.

Solution needed: Infrastructure -  I have a solution for all except the USB 3G dongle that will take the Vodafone 50gig SIM card but also has a port for the coax antenna.

The only one I can find on the Vodafone website is one is I sign up for a plan and I don't think it's got a port for an Antenna. Plan appears to be good with Vodafone offering a month by month $140 for 50 gig. Would love more data but I can't find anyone else that is close, let alone offering more.

I hope the speed will match what we're currently getting with Telstra. I don't believe there is much of a difference in coverage from what I can tell looking at their coverage maps.

Can anyone help with the Dongle question?

Thanks

Hello, I have inherited a Vodafone Mobile/Pocket Wifi R205 device that was purchased in the UK some years ago and I would like to use it in Australia. Please advise if I am able unlock this device for use on the Vodafone or Other network in Australia? If so how?

Thanks in advance.

VF website vs Pocket WiFi data useage accuracy

$

I have had a mobile broadband contract with VF for a good number of years. It has been one of the mostly trouble free experiences although we did go through a period when reception was abysmal.

I have found that the data consumption meter on any of the pocket WiFi's has always tallied accurately with my monthly account so I was in for a very unexpected surprise a few days ago whenI checked my data consumption on the VF website.

I guess by now that everyone is or has been caught at some time by the new Windows update policy and had very unexpected useage. Being aware of this I always check the Pocket WiFi meter for consumption every time it is connected. Connected it about 5 days ago and the data consumed was 8.3 GB for the period. Checked it about 2 hours later with two of us on line and I had reached my account limit. It seems that my wifes new Win 10 laptop had just taken the major update, which for us had been about 3.5 GB for every computer. OK, no problems, no claims I didn't use the data and just then I received an email advising I had used 100% of my data. So, VF and my Pocket WiFi tallied exactly.

Included in the email was a link to the VF site to check your data consumption on line. Yep, that said I had hit the limit too. Also on that page is the chart of consumption by day. This is where it just does not make sense. Whereas the Pocket WiFi said I had 3.7 GB remaining at the start of that session, the VF chart said I had only 83 MB before I hit the limit. Way back on 16 Jan it showed a consumption for the day of 2.6 GB when it should have been minimal on that day. So, the useage on the VF website just does not correlate in any way with my useage and the Pocket WiFi data meter. That said, it is spot on when I hit the limit, so whats the story here. Is the VF site really accurate or should I stick with the Pocket WiFi which has always been on the money????

Constant disconnects in World of Warcraft

Hi, Im a casual gamer and lately WoW disconnects frequently, about every 5 minutes, I havent been able to stay connected for longer than that for about 1 week. I have several devices that Ive tried, a USB stick, Wifi extreme and a Globesurfer router, all give the same problem. Ive tried this on 2 PCs also having the same result.Ive tried using a network cable and wifi as the connection type. Ive tried everything I can think of, double checked all settings, rebooted all devices and PCs multiple times etc etc I work in IT and have a pretty good understanding of it all, but Im open to any suggestions..

Ive even tried another connection, via Reward Mobile, which is a vodafone reseller, that option gives the same result. (Its not surprising though, its not a different ISP just a different billing service really, selling your network.)

All my browsing and other internet usage is flawless, it never misses a beat really, its just World of Warcraft. In game I will get "you have been disconnected from battle.net       Connected to Battle.net" text about every minute or so then after a few minutes of that I get disconnected from the server.

The signal strength is pretty good, about 83db which is about 4 bars.

I connect to this tower:

http://oztowers.com/Home/FullSiteInfo?siteId=15197

I have done some testing, the IP of the Warcraft server in Australia is 103.4.115.248 below are the results:

Im quite convinced that this is a problem at Vodafones end. Either there is some strange technical work going on at the tower or internally you have some "routing" problems. Blizzard claims theres nothing wrong at their end, they have millions of other players with no problems.

What can we do to resolve this please?

Problem with repair

Bill Morrow

Chief Executive Officer

Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA).

Dear Mr Marrow:

My greetings to you for your new assignment.

I am a happy customer of Orange/Hutchinson/3/Vodaphone since 2001. In 2001 when I had problems with my Samsung handset, I rang Customer assistance. They sent me brand new LG hand set and a reply paid envelope to return faulty handset. Problem was resolved in less than 2 day.

However, my recent experience is traumatic:

My NokiaLumia 630 hand set suddenly stopped working on 5-2-2016. I was provided this handset by Vodaphone [personal details removed] and they have been deducting $6.00 every month since past 16 months or so. I contacted your helpline. After quick trouble shooting, Mayur advised me to take the phone and Proof of Purchase (PoP) to nearest dealer in Wentworthville. Muhammad, the dealer was very helpful when I took the handset and PoP at about 4 PM on 5-2-2016. He did investigations and told me that handset needed repairs. He tried to complete on-line form to return it but since he is a new dealer, he had difficulty in completing and submitting the form. It was getting rejected. Apparently he tried several times to get help from Dealer support but could not complete the form till next Tuesday, 9-2-2016. I was provided a tracking number (10289592) and when I checked the status of repairs yesterday morning, it said, device was being returned to store. It however did not say whether it was repaired on not. So I rang Customer service and spoke to one Asif. Asif told me that the handset was being returned to the dealer because PoP was not there. I was surprised. I told Asif and his Supervisor that instead of returning the handset the repairs could have ring up the dealer or me or Support people who could have provided PoP document. They kept on wasting my time, asking for my PIN and full name and address 3 times during 3 hours call.

I will appreciate you to kindly order an enquiry in to unhelpful, unprofessional and tardy conduct of your employees in handling of this case and organise immediate repairs/replacement of faulty handset. You may like to ask them:

  • Why your new dealer was not supported to complete the form for 5 days despite of his phone calls?
  • Why repairs team could not find PoP document that your dealer had sent with the handset?
  • Why they did not contact either the dealer or me or Customer Support to obtain the PoP document?
  • Why they returned the handset (wasting time and monies)?
  • Why repairs team did not provide correct status that they had returned the phone without repairs because they could not find PoP document?
  • Why it took them over 4 days to figure this out?
  • Why Asif and his Supervisor Rauf could not resolve the problem?
  • Why Asif and his Supervisor Rauf kept on asking my full name, pin number over 3 times during the conversation lasting over 3 hours, yesterday evening?

I hope my feedback will help you to know how your staff are behaving and will provide you with opportunity to improve your customer service.

With best wishes and regards.

Yours sincerely,

Pocket WiFi 4G R216 Ports and NAT

$

Hi all,

I have a Vodafone pocket wifi 4G R216 I have just purchased.

its post pay.  its set up and working but i have problems with incoming on ports.  i have set up nat to allow for example ports 32400 or 23303 through but it doesn't seem to work.  are these ports being blocked by vodafone?

apologies for the difficult reading my shift key just broke

EDIT:

i spoke to vodafome support and they told me that vodafone do not block any ports.  They also told me that this device cannot be used to host a server.  Why I asked?  And was told that i would need to contact the manufacturer Huawei.  I was sceptical as the pocket wifi allow access to the 'router' setting so i was able to set up NAT to 'allow' ports opened.

I spoke to Huwawei and they looked into it very helpfully and told me that this model is a special for vodafone.  They said that vodafone has modified it so it can't be used for this purpose.  So what does that suggest?  Vodafone don't block any ports but this device does?  And worse than this, the device leads you to believe that these settings are working - available and even DMZ is available - supposedly unlocking all access.... but no - go to a port checker website and everything is locked down.

How long have i spend trying to resolve this, including purchasing the device which i told the shop assistant i was purchasing it for? Two days.  Rant rant rant....

So my new question to the good guys on the forum - I will return the devices to vodafone for a refund (i purachsed two).  Is there another device I can put these sim cards in that will allow me to do what i need to do, or do i need to cancel the two sim data plans as well?

Grrrrr and thanks Smiley Happy

Data Allowance in NZ

Hi all,

I've seen there is $0 roaming fees in New Zealand.

Does that mean if I take my mobile broadband to New Zealand, I can use my data allowance there? and it will work just like it does in Australia at no additional charges/rates?

Thank you,

You can rollover up to 50GB of unused data in Australia if you recharge your service before your expiry date.

The prepaid MBB page says:

"You can rollover up to 50GB of unused data in Australia if you recharge your service before your expiry date."

Have I understood this correctly?

I am currently on the new SIM double-data deal for the first three recharges.

Let's say I have 20GB remaining.

If I do a $125 recharge for 25GB, then I get 50GB from the double-data.

New balance = 70GB remaining, yes?  The 20GB I had unused rolling over, plus the 25+25 I've just recharged?
